Pain & Palliative Care

Communication - the cornerstone of palliative care - is key to superb care. Our team will help you feel comfortable speaking to your doctors, nurses, family members and other important people in your life. The care of people living with cancer is a major focus of Pain and Palliative Care Department of VPS Lakeshore.

Pain and palliative care needs may arise at any cancer stage and pain and palliative care treatments can be provided together with curative treatment. The goal is to improve quality-of-life for both the patient and family throughout the course of cancer treatment. Counseling on palliative treatment options, education and training of patients and their caregivers is also available.

Many patients neglect their health and they continue to ignore their body’s signals and bear the pain till it becomes chronic and severe. VPS Lakeshore Pain and Palliative Care clinicians work with patients and families to provide compassionate, supportive care and guidance with difficult decisions and complex information. They help to alleviate pain and other symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, depression, anxiety and sleeping difficulty related to patients illness.

VPS Lakeshore Pain and Palliative Care services are both hospital based and outpatient clinic based; helping bridge the continuity of care gap. An Interdisciplinary team consisting of Oncologists, palliative care physician, counselors, nurses and social workers delivers the care.
